June 19,1949  was the date of the first Nascar race in North Carolina. The Charlotte Speedway at that time was an old dirt track. The purse was all of $2000.00. Jim Roper took 1st. followed by Fonty Flock, Red Byron, Sam Rice and in 5th place Tim Flock. There were no Nascar t-shirts or Nascar racing jackets. No Nascar diecast.........YET..... Now in 2008 Nascar is the #1 spectator sport. Nascar has turned into fun for the whole family. Nascar collectables are numerous from diecast models to Nascar t-shirts, Nascar hats, Nascar clocks and much much more.
